Marc Jacobs has directed plays, musicals, and operas for the American Shakespeare Festival, the Magic Theatre, New York City Opera, Houston Opera Center, Madison Opera, Los Angeles Music Center Opera, Broadway By the Bay, Center Rep (Walnut Creek) and American Musical Theatre of San Jose (AMTSJ). He was Associate Artistic Director of AMTSJ for nine years, where he received two “Ginny” Awards for directing. He wrote the scripts for How to Make a Musical (published by Dramatic Publishing) and another original musical, All the More to Love, which premiered at the Phoenix Theatre (AZ) in 2009 winning the Subscriber’s Award for Season Favorite. He was named Best Director of a Musical by the San Francisco Bay Area Drama Critics Circle in 2008 for his production of Show Boat at Broadway By the Bay, and received a Meritorious Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for writing and directing his play The Iago Syndrome. Marc is a full-time professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at California State University East Bay and Co-Director of Music Theatre Conservatory, a professional training program at Notre Dame de Namur University.
