As the Community Resource Specialist at Lawrence Public Library, I play a pivotal role in connecting underserved populations—including low-income individuals, aging adults, people with disabilities, etc—with essential library services and community resource information. My role is a dynamic blend of program development and coordination, community engagement, and the provision of information services to meet the informational needs of library patrons. I spearhead the development and implementation of adult-focused programs in subject areas such as financial literacy, digital literacy, legal aid, culture, and health, handling everything from program creation and logistics to marketing and promotion. At the heart of my role, I provide essential reference services, research instruction, technological assistance, and accounts management at the library's Ask Desk, Technology Services Desk, and Phone Room. My responsibilities also encompass personalized, one-on-one research consultations to help patrons connect with community resources and navigate our library's digital databases. Through outreach efforts, such as presentations, tours, and attending special community events, I build relationships with local service organizations to promote and increase awareness of library services.

As an undergraduate at the University of Kansas (KU), I was awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Grant to assist the KU Urban Planning Department with two projects. The first focused on analyzing hazard mitigation plans for local governments, towns, and municipalities within the Southeastern United States and Midwest. My plan content analysis involved looking over the plans and coding for certain variables found in these documents like mitigation actions, public involvement techniques, organizational involvement and plan integration.The second NSF grant project focused on how climate change is taught in college urban planning programs across the United States. As a research team, we looked at the variables driving climate change teaching like program sizes, expertise of personnel, faculty size, and region of programs. As part of this work, I was tasked with sending out surveys to Urban Planning Program Directors across the United States. My responsibilities included distributing surveys over the phone, conducting follow up phone calls, and compiling data into spreadsheets I could share with our research colleagues in Massachusetts and Canada.
