I am a distinguished astronomer at the Space Telescope Science Institute ( STScI) located in Baltimore, MD. The STScI is a NASA-funded research center whose mission currently involves supporting scientific exploration with the Hubble Space Telescope and the James Webb Space Telescope. We are also preparing for science operations with the Nancy Roman Space Telescope (launch ca. 2026).My research interests include observational cosmology, the large scale structure of the universe, the evolution of clusters of galaxies, and the origins of different galaxy morphologies. My technical interests include object and cluster detection algorithms, data archive systems, and future space telescope design and concepts. Recent Positions:July 2022 - present: Interim Deputy Director of STScI Dec. 2019 - June 2022: Chair of Science Staff at STScI.2010 - 2017: Principle Investigator, CLASH Multi-cycle Treasury Program (HST)Oct 2009 - Jan 2010: Interim Deputy Director, STScI.2005 - 2019: Head, Community Missions Office (CMO) at STScI. CMO provides mission support for several NASA missions including GALEX, FUSE, Kepler (launch in March '09). CMO is a resource for innovation at STScI including investigations of future space observatory concepts, data archiving and visualization, and science operations. 2003 - 2005: Deputy Head of CMO1995 - 2003: Head of the Multi-mission Archive at STScI.Specialties: Astrophysics research in the areas of galaxy formation and evolution and the large scale distribution of matter.
