Employed on a warship as the Commanding Officer’s watchkeeping adviser on: tactics, the general operational situation, and the maritime picture. Advising the Commanding Officer on the correct employment of personnel, weapons, sensors and communications to meet any future and or current operational requirements for own or subordinate units and to comply with the orders given by a Superior Commander and or Commanding Officer.

The Commanding Officer's representative and responsible for the control, navigation, systems and maritime safety of advanced Navy ships at sea.The Commanding Officer's (CO) representative over a 24 hour period, being directly responsible for the safety and security of the ship and personnel onboard.Oversight of general maintenance and administration of Navy ships governance and equipment as part of a larger team. Designated as a Divisional Officer, which involves giving job specific mentorship and advice to junior sailors and officers.

The operations officer is responsible for the planning and management of the units movements, training and operations. Providing regular and timely reports and updates to numerous stakeholders and analysing the units capability in regards to the evolving situation. I am expected to engage and liaise with organisational stakeholders to achieve the organisational priorities and analyse the future implications for the unit's capability.
