The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship – New Orleans is one of thirteen active Schweitzer programs across the U.S. dedicated to developing a pipeline of emerging professionals who enter the workforce with the skills and commitment necessary to address unmet health needs. New Orleans Schweitzer Fellows are competitively chosen from students enrolled in a variety of graduate and professional programs in the Greater New Orleans area who have demonstrated a passion for cultivating positive change in our community.Brothers Linked Against Cancer (BLAC) is a culturally-sensitive, community-driven programbased in New Orleans, LA, designed to address cancer disparities by promoting cancer prevention methods. The primary goals of this program are to educate Black males on cancer prevention and encourage appropriate health behaviors, reducing the impact of current health disparities. Utilizing sustainable educational interventions and strong community partnerships, BLAC strives to create significant, positive change in cancer-related knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors in the New Orleans Black community. The 2021-2022 BLAC program, created under the New Orleans Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, aims to specifically address prostate cancer disparities within the New Orleans Black community.
