Program Support - Patient Safety
Current• Collaborates with the Quality Deputy Director to oversee all patient safety matters and or events within the Birmingham VA Healthcare System footprint.• Maintain day-to-day duties through proficient knowledge with computers and software including Microsoft Suite, Adobe, SPOT, CPRS, VISTA, Joint Patient Safety Reporting (JPSR), Share Point, and Sales Force.• Provide Patient Safety education to oncoming staff through the New Employee Orientation program; how to determine what qualifies as a JPSR event, and how to enter events into the JPSR system.• Acts as a liaison for Patient Safety in educating Birmingham VA Healthcare System staff members on National Patient Safety Goals best practices adhering to VHA directives. • Management of Root Cause Analysis teams while remaining in compliance with the National Council for Patient Safety guidebook.• Review, evaluate, and assign patient safety events to designated reviewers for investigation, conducts proper follow-up for timely report submission.• Prepare and deliver daily patient safety reports to Executive Leadership team members. • Track and manage Sales Force system for hospital alerts and recalls; disseminating alerts through proper channels for rectification.• Implemented the first Facility Standard Operating Procedure (FSOP) for the BVAHCS addressing missing, wandering, and absent patients. • Assist in updating policies for the Medical Center, as well as clinic service areas.
