This fellowship focuses on education policy development—design, enactment, and implementation at the state and federal level—and the leadership necessary to influence it.

New Sector’s Fellowship programs bring together cohorts of highly-motivated and skilled early career professionals committed to careers that make a difference. Fellows participate in professional development training, peer learning teams, mentoring, and career coaching to support short-term goals and long-term career advancement—strengthening the capacity of the social sector at-large.

Built new organizational website, leading the coding, design, and writing of all content. Oversaw the implementation of an interactive digital planning tool, directing a team of staff and external developers to ensure consistent branding, quality, and functionality. Developed brand theme and guidelines for conferences in Minnesota, California, and Washington DC. Facilitated complete overhaul of office technology solution, guiding staff as in-house expert throughout the transition. Created numerous marketing and training materials for print and web. Produced and edited videos for funder reports, promotion, and national events. Managed Marketing & Communications Associate tasked with executing social media strategy.

Instituted floor-to-ceiling redesign of student & teacher training website while maintaining and promoting site membership through blog stories, events, and monthly newsletters. Designed infographics for program marketing and reporting. Established guidelines for social media engagement and contributed to marketing content calendar. Organized logistics to deliver live and recorded online training.

Strengthened early childhood assets and social-emotional school readiness competencies, by supporting preschool children and their parents and growing capacity through community outreach and education. Created and marketed The Early Bird blog to raise awareness of early childhood issues and local initiatives. Worked cooperatively on service projects and in training with a team of 22 AmeriCorps members convened by the program.

Interviewed elected officials, journalists, commentators, and community leaders during hour-long talk radio program. Discussed politics and current events, creating a mix of reporting and opinion for multi-market radio network.

Authored official political blog of Waseca County News website. Provided reporting and analysis of current issues in government and politics ranging from the local to national level.

Worked alongside staff and other interns to finish collective projects. Drafted constituent correspondence regarding issues such as health care. Updated and digitized extensive contact lists. Communicated with public officials, embassies, and veterans groups on behalf of the Congressman. Accompanied Rep. Walz on district visits to local businesses. Dealt with constituent input on issues and constituent requests and offered appropriate responses or referrals.
