Raise awareness of and assist in fundraising efforts to support Friends of MSF

I work in a lab investigating schistosomiasis and pro-inflammatory responses during infection. My objectives in this position will be documented in my thesis when complete. These objectives include determining if C-type Lectin receptors Mincle and Dectin-2 on immortalized macrophages trigger inflammasome activation in response to schistosome eggs. To do so, I am blocking these receptors using blocking antibodies and then stimulating them with eggs. Then, I will assess Pro-IL1B, IL-1B, and ASC (adaptor protein for all inflammasomes) through western blotting. If the results show inflammasome activation to be downstream of CLRs, I will more specifically look at which inflammasomes are activated. The second part of my thesis will involve determining if IFN-1 is capable of downregulating Dectin-2 and Mincle by stimulating recombinant IFN-B and assessing Mincle and Dectin-2 expression using flow cytometry and western blotting

I worked in cell culture of HEK293T cells and considered the health of mitochondria, presence of lipids, and endosome-lysosome function their relationship with genetic knockdown in phenotypes that are present in the onset of Alzheimer's Disease

Assist with the management and growth of breast cancer cell culture.

• Read and analyzed systematic reviews and studies that address the connection between oral and systemic disease. • Organized and synthesized reviews and studies in excel relating to design, intention, limitations, biases and conclusions.• Prepared PowerPoint presentations of findings including potential associations, causal relationships, and mechanisms between oral disease and systemic health. Provided opinion on the nature of the discussed connection, provide supporting data for basis of marketing. Suggested future studies which could enhance product development or potentially provide more targeted marketing strategies.
