My lifelong love for the outdoors spans from family camping trips at my grandfather's farm in New Hampshire to summers on the ocean in Woods Hole, Cape Cod, to a semester of high school located a stone's throw from the Colorado Rockies. These experiences taught me the values of being kind, respecting, and caring for both people and the planet. As an undergraduate, I became fascinated with human systems (social, economic, political), environmental systems, and their interactions with each other. Learning about the degree of harm we have done to the planet instilled in me a strong desire to help reduce our climate impact for the betterment of all. But how? My passion centers around using the power of creativity and strategic communication to push for affecting positive change. I believe how we communicate ideas, information, and stories is the key. Having one of my graphic designs sell over 1,000 T-shirts as an intern at Pythia Clothing, a community-driven streetwear apparel brand, gave me a sense of how my visual creativity can influence customer behavior. Working on a campaign to promote solar panels in the local Santa Barbara community showed me the power of strategic messaging to disseminate scientific information and drive action on sustainable energy. I taught myself to sew during the COVID-19 pandemic to revitalize old clothes and unexpectedly made an upcycled clothing business out of it. In doing so, I harnessed my past creative experiences to promote and sell eco-alternative product options to customers. Throughout my experiences, Throughout my experiences, I have seen my strategies, solutions, and designs bring in new audiences and build communities that support sustainable lifestyles among each other. At this point in my work life, I hope to bring my creativity, leadership, and enthusiastic passion around making sustainable choices to inform, educate, and motivate others to do the same.
