Apart from a couple of projects in earlier classes, my capstone course was my first step into the professional world. It allowed me and my group to work with three clients from the Stevens Point area: Rotary Club of Stevens Point, Wisconsin-Nicaragua Partners, and Stevens Point Housing Authority. Rotary Club was my first introduction to content management systems on a development level. My previous experience had been using demo versions to write user documentation. This website was a maintenance project on their current website, which uses WordPress. My largest task on this website was creating a custom user profile directory based off of a current model, and modifying it to work with a password protection system so only users who were logged in could see complete profiles. This work was mostly PHP-based.The Wisconsin-Nicaragua Partners project was a complete redesign of their outdated (by a decade) and extremely content-based website. We had to map out all of the content they currently had, and find a good way (while working with our client in the process) to organize it into a newer and cleaner website. The website we developed is based on Joomla! and offers a much-needed cleaner environment for users to visit. From usability testing we were able to determine some of the most important needs of the site users, and from that we developed their current website.The Stevens Point Housing Authority project was aimed at getting important information out to the internet to make it widely available. They were swamped with phone calls for information. What we did was end result was a Joomla! website create and online presence for them, based off of collaborations between our team and our client on designs and which content to include. The result was quite successful.My goal is simply to continue being an honest, professional person that strives to learn and from that create the best products and experience that I can.
