As Senior Editor of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, I work with MLI experts to publish op-eds, longer commentaries, and research papers that influence public policy in Canada and beyond.Prior to joining MLI, I enjoyed a diverse career as the editor-in-chief of a national history magazine, the assistant news editor of a national news service, and the associate director of communications of a major Canadian university.As the Director of Content & Communications at Canada's National History Society, I was responsible for all print and digital publishing activities, including the Society's flagship magazine, Canada's History, its website, CanadasHistory.ca, and books and special interest publications.As Editor-in-Chief, I led an award-winning team of editors, writers, designers, photographers, and web professionals. During my tenure, Canada's History was nominated for more than eighty national and regional awards, and was a finalist for Magazine of the Year at the National Magazine Awards.In my senior communications role, I provided strategic advice to the Society's President & CEO and acted as the national spokesperson for CNHS. In addition, I edited three non-fiction books that became national bestsellers: 100 Photos that Changed Canada (HarperCollins Canada 2009), 100 Days that Changed Canada (HarperCollins Canada 2011), and Canada’s Great War Album (HarperCollins Canada 2014). I also wrote the text for the book Hudson's Bay Company (Assouline 2011), and contributed two chapters to Native Leaders of Canada (New Federation House 2009). I have appeared as a guest on many television and radio broadcasts, including Canada AM, CBC Radio, and more. I am a member of the Advisory Council of Red River College's Creative Communications program (Winnipeg), and have acted as a jurist for national writing and arts competitions, including Historica Canada's Indigenous Arts & Stories competition, and the National Newspaper Awards.Specialties include: management, strategic communications, media relations, public relations, editing, writing, content development, web content direction, team-building, leadership, mentoring, and public speaking.
