Having graduated with a Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology), from Flinders University, I am able to draw from robust frameworks whilst reflecting on extensive workplace experience. Athlete Transition And Engagement Lead
Department Of The Premier And Cabinet, Government Of South Australia Jul 2019 - Nov 2022
South Australian Sports Institute, Kidman Park
Following Cycling Australia's recruitment of a National Athlete Well-being and Engagement Lead my role is now full time across all of SASIs sports programs. This change enables me to focus on careers and transition support to over 20 Olympic, Paralympic, and Commonwealth Games sports. Working closely with our Wellbeing Lead, Coaches and support staff we provide tailored support to Athletes and their stakeholders. Key to this role is maintaining strong relationships with educators, employers and National Sporting Organisations' staff; ensuring alignment with national program expectations. With the new National Careers Practitioners Referral Network, we have access to local and interstate contacts that can provide expertise when required. Success in my role is measured less by podiums, and more by Athletes' readiness to transition to their national program or from the high performance pathway. Concurrent Dual Career planning is critical in this regard, as formal study, employment and community engagement assist in preparing for a successful transition.
  • Department Of The Premier And Cabinet, Government Of South Australia
    Senior Athlete Career Development Adviser
Department Of The Premier And Cabinet, Government Of South Australia Aug 2015 - Nov 2022
The South Australian Sports Institute (Sasi), And The Australian Cycling Team
My Career Development roles span four key SASI programs (Cycling, Hockey, Netball and Swimming), and The Australian Cycling Team. Working alongside Head Coaches and Technical Directors, we aim to allow our Athletes opportunities to develop skills and strategies towards their post-sporting lives. Key to these strategies are concurrent study pathways, including secondary school completion, University and or VET course options. Working closely with schools and the Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) networks ensures that Athletes studying receive appropriate academic adjustments that acknowledges their sporting commitments. Another key aspect of my roles is the recognition that Athletes transition within the high performance pathway and that these changes need to be suitably planned for, and that all stakeholders are supported through these processes. Working with Athletes' families also allows these key influencers the chance to understand how study, employment and community engagement can co-exist as a 'positive distraction' not a 'derailleur' to high performance expectations.
