Responsible for the continued safe and efficient operation of Flybe's fleet working within the Integrated Operations Control Centre. This role involved liaising with Flight Crew and Engineers to recover or reset technical issues within the manufacturer’s limitations. Coordinating AOG recoveries within the UK and EU with Flybe Engineers and 3rd party maintenance providers was critical, ensuring aircraft returned to service with minimal disruption, reporting progress to other departments and Directors.

Following 16 years of aircraft maintenance experience, a decision was made to take a change in direction when offered a chance to be part of a small team in an exciting new venture. The role of Technical Sales Development Engineer has meant working with some of the leading Airlines and MRO's globally, finding solutions for their aviation tooling, loan or purchase requirements. The ability to offer first hand accounts of tooling is often appreciated by customers when evaluating the best solution for their facility. This position has provided me with exposure to the financial aspects of a growing business and has offered a better understanding of accounting methodologies further improving my commercial awareness in a competitive industry. Additionally new insight into the fundamental factors effecting supply chains and logistic networks have been a welcome challenge which I hope will continue to broaden my business skills and increase my versatility going forward.

Cairns, Australia

Based at Hawker Pacific's Cairns facility, working for Australian Avionics Tarmac division. Attaining a CASA B2 license in Australia has enabled the certification of work undertaken on aircraft where type certificates are currently held, and provided an insight into general aviation operations as well as further exposure to scheduled maintenance and avionic installations in a new environment. Gaining a better understanding of the design and fabrication of minor and major modifications throughout numerous avionics projects has broadened my outlook, and lead to the development of new skills. From initial design proposals, through to embodiment, weight and balance analysis and flight testing, to the eventual sign off and certification was enlightening.

Exeter

Working as part of a team tasked with introducing a new Aircraft Maintenance/Operating system (AMOS) to Flybe. Coordinating various aspects of the project surrounding the Production, Workshops and Maintenance Control work streams, this has been a challenging secondment but highly informative gaining a greater understanding of the aircraft maintenance industry. By accurately mapping the processes that various departments within Flybe undertake, the team were able to define the most efficient methods of achieving these processes utilising AMOS. In addition to this, development of the training material, planning and executing the programs implementation and ultimately its go live were all aspects of this role.

Exeter

Employed to oversee and certify the Avionics elements of aircraft maintenance at Flybe's main base in Exeter, as well as several nationwide and overseas experiences as a B2 licensed engineer, representing aviation services. Usually supervising a team of engineers in the base maintenance environment, this role is primarily to ensure the engineering tasks are carried out safely to the required standard whilst being mindful of efficiency and costs. The necessity to liaise with other departments, management and often third party customers is vital in this role to achieve specified targets within strict time constraints.

Seconded to assist with handing back a fleet of Embraer 145 aircraft to their respective Lessee's. Involved heavily with the aircraft technical record's, airworthiness and several other aspects of Part M and Part 145 requirements. A sound understanding of the contractual obligations associated with the lease and subsequent hand-back process were acquired during this period, with significant involvement in the physical inspections of individual aircraft alongside the lessee's chosen representative. In addition to this there were elements of aircraft sales, negotiations and into-service preparations for prospective future lessors.

Employed as an Avionics Engineer developing trouble shooting skills and defect rectification on Flybe's fleet of aircraft as well as those of various third party operators. Scheduled aircraft base maintenance, modification programs and line maintenance were also significant aspects of this appointment with increasing levels of responsibility as time passed.

Completion of a 4 year JAA approved apprenticeship achieving the practical and theoretical standard required by the Civil Aviation Authority.All JAR 66 B2 Modules were succesfully attained during this period to qualify as a certified licensed aircraft engineer.
