Created Carlins Software Solutions to Distribute and Market various Sage Line 500/1000 Add-on Software Modules that have been developed over a period of 20 years.Achievements :* Sage 1000 v3 – Converted several add-on applications to work with the new Sage 1000 format, the majority of the work being the new XML screen forms and print forms.* Chartered Society of Physiotherapists – Modified Thinklink to provide an import for Commitment Accounting into the Sage Nominal Ledger from their Proactis system, also modifications to allow another customer to import details from SAP R5 to Sage 1000.* Rainbow Designs – Designed and Implemented a Stock Forecasting system for Rainbow that tracks POP & SOP Orders for Toys (from China) which are then redistributed to the UK stores.* Satellite Information Systems – Produced technical specifications to keep track of Stock in their 50 vans and to synchronize the stock movements with their Sage Line 500 system at their head office.* Castings PLC – Designed from scratch their Timesheet system which takes Employee movements from Timeware and produces a Timesheet, based on a weekly Calendar payment system and has very complex shift patterns & holiday pay calculations.* Excel Integration – Designed a product in raw C that grabs any Sage 1000 Report and with various configuration settings places the report into a CSV format with very sophisticated calculation and formatting options.

Dec 2007 – Oct 2008 Datel ComputingMy job role was to design and enhance the various Sage add-on products as well as various Pre-Sales, Post-Sales and Consultancy roles, this resulted in Star achieving sales of between 70% and 80% of these products to their own customers as well as helping them gain new clients. Transferred to Datel in December 2007.Achievements :* V&A Museum - Project Manager responsible for implementing a Photographic transparency hire system linked to their Media Library and Sage Accounts, on time and to budget.* Vodaphone - Successfully integrated the APS Tills with Sage Line 500 in SA, Lesotho, Mozambique, Swaziland and Tanzania - this was done via various resellers in SA – also 1 Site for MTN (Orange).* Dominoes Pizza – Designed and implemented several key functions to their business including Web Integration to their Sage Line 500 product as well as EDI with key suppliers like Coca Cola.* Inspecs Ltd – Implemented an EDI system with their key supplier Boots, this involved automating a complex delivery charge structure that would only be possible in Sage via manual intervention.* Horizon Soft Drinks – Designed and developed a complete Service/Repairs and Automated Payments module for Horizon used for scheduling visits, producing tickets and to keep a complete history of work completed on site* Francotyp Postalia – Designed and developed a very sophisticated EDI system that automatically created and posted Invoices, Additional Charges, Letters to Customers, Payments from/to the Bank etc.* Macdonald Dettwiler - A new company was setup between the UK & Canadian governments, I designed and implemented the software (Thinklink) within tight deadlines and have a letter of thanks from the PM (Tony Blair)

Founded MCS in order to offer specialist skills to various customers and to design and develop software to give additional functionality to the Sage product range, I also created a custom programming language (M-Base) which was based on C-Base and used this to design and developed the following products.* Plant Hire/Tool Hire Package for another Tetra VAR (written in C-Base).* An Interface Program between Tetra 2000 and a Freight Forwarding company. (was a 2 way link).* The Interface Program was then redeveloped into a product now called Thinklink.* Credit Control Product (designed from 3 customers requirements).* An Order Scheduling System – later changed it’s name to Contract Billing.* The Plant Hire system in C-Base was completely rewritten into Hire 2000, (for the National Gallery and later on for the Victoria & Albert Museum).

Appointed as Technical Director for CA, I was responsible for Technical support of their customer base, development of all in-house products and a team of 7 programmers who provided bespoke enhancements to Tetra 2000 which I would prepare for them, I also designed and developed the following products.* A New/Used car vehicle system – sold to a dozen or more customers.* An Insurance Claims system for Britannia Airways – Linked to the Uniplex WP.* A Bespoke Payroll Billing system for ADP (the largest Payroll Bureau in the world).* An Integration product to Tetra – called Datalink – over 400 of these were sold.* A Report Generator for Woolworths PLC.
Analyst / Programmer
Appointed as an Analyst/Programmer, I helped develop Tetraplan from version A to version B, mainly the Job Costing integration, the complex SOP/POP reports and the password routines, after 6 months I changed roles to become Porting Manager and developed the QF data conversion tools, here I gained a lot of experience in Unix/Xenix/AIX (about 40 to 50 varieties) and became an expert at writing Unix scripts.
Programmer / Analyst
I was initially employed as a trainee programmer and started developing an accounts/distribution system in Cobol on Data General mini computers, promoted to Programmer and then Senior Programmer within a couple of years, worked on all the DG equipment and various operating systems such as RDOS, ICOS, AOS and AOS/VS (for Christies). Also wrote parts of a builders billing system in OPL on the Ontel OP/1 system.At this point I really wanted to get away from the DG Mini-computers and Cobol background and learn Unix and C.
