I work in Richard Scheuermann's molecular biology lab at J. Craig Venter Institute in La Jolla, CA, as the manager of the Single Cell Lab. The lab includes a variety of automated equipment and single cell processing technologies (scRNA-seq, 10X Genomics, FACS Aria, Agilent Biocel 1200 integrated platform, etc.) used to process samples for NGS platforms including NovaSeq 6000, MinION, and PromethION platforms.

I worked with Roger Lasken, Director of Single Cell Genomics and inventor of MDA, known commercially as GenomiPhi and Repli-g. I worked to develop methods and technologies for single cell genomics and transcriptomics. A relatively new technology at the time, Single Cell Genomics has proven the potential for broad applicability across the biological sciences, much like genomic sequencing.

Worked as a team member in the Assay Development Group at BD-GeneOhm to develop clinical molecular diagnostic assays for Cystic Fibrosis and Sepsis. GeneOhm Sciences was successfully acquired by Becton Dickinson.

Worked in the BioMEMS lab of Paul Matsudaira and Dan Ehrlich in a diversely skilled environment with physicists, chemists, mechanical engineers, electronic engineers, software engineers, and biologists to develop next generation microfluidic DNA sequencing technologies. I was responsible for testing, optimizing, and reporting the performance of the BioMEMS-768 DNA sequencer.

Worked in the Variance Imaging group, a high throughput SNP detection lab using technology that I helped develop at my previous company, Avitech Diagnostics. Variagenics was a pioneering pharmacogenomics company in the late 90's/early 2000's that ultimately was commercially unsuccessful. A modern equivalent that ultimately was successful would be Genoptix, acquired by Novartis.

Worked in the Assay Development Group to design a molecular assay, Enzymatic Mutation Detection, or EMD, for rapid SNP and indel detection. The company was successfully acquired by Variagenics in Cambridge, MA.
