I have always been interested in information technology, I started my journey as an electronic engineer and spent around 6 years in the embedded engineering space. I found that what was lacking in graduate engineers was a good understanding of fundamental programming skills and as I spent alot of time re-writing embedded code to not only optimise for speed and storage size but to also improve understanding. I found the balance between the two was where expertise was really needed. This lead to my interest and passion for both object orientated programming as well as functional programming. As I focussed on these skills,(i.e. fundamentals of good programming) it became apparent that these skills are somewhat also lacking in the IT space. I personally had an interest in machine learning and finance at the time, which is why Jemstep seemed a perfect fit. I have had to learn alot in a short amount of time in pivoting from Electronic Engineer to Full Stack Developer but I never felt my skills falling short of what is needed, and infact I felt even more empowered to employ engineering principles in the IT space to much success. I played many roles at Jemstep some tech lead related and others just focused of delivering value as part of a team, a re-focus of the company resulted in me taking on the Tech Lead Manager role in a more formal fashion, in the IAM space.
