About Mark Ross
Having a positive impact on society – this is my life’s mission. This overarching mission has led my life and career in a few different directions, each of which have shaped myself and allowed me to influence the world in different ways. – My Corporate Career at PwC –For over 30 years with PwC in roles from Associate to Partner, I was actively engaged with clients in their M&A activity and helping to analyze clients’ business strategy, accounting, finance and corporate governance challenges. Through my leadership positions across various business and geographies with the Firm, I was able to develop strong technical, analytical, business, relationship development, and management skills. As my leadership within PwC progressed, so too did my ability to make an impact within and outside the Firm. I became known as an agile leader invested in talent mentorship, team development, diversity and inclusion as well as community advocacy. – Greater Cleveland Civic & Board Leadership –When my career with PwC brought me back to my hometown of Cleveland, OH, I had the opportunity to engage in the local community and determine how the Firm gave back to the city. As a result, I was able to engage with multiple organizations and began seeing how I could make a difference on a local and personal level.Since retiring from PwC, I have made it a point to continuously expand my involvement as a civic and board leader. Currently, I am involved as a Board Member, Executive Committee Chair, and a number of other capacities with local organizations that aim to influence positive change as it relates to education, diversity and inclusion, economic development, healthcare and the arts. – Thought Leadership –While I am focused locally on the Greater Cleveland area, my desire to impact society as a whole has led me to become involved as a thought leader in educating, advocating for, and pushing for progression as it relates to various topics. In recent years, I have committed myself to creating content and starting conversations around diversity and inclusion, economic development, child/adult education, the arts, and more. My goal with this work is to ignite passion in others, encourage open dialogue, and drive societal progress. ✉ As I look ahead to the second act of my career and life, I welcome conversations with others regarding community, civic, corporate, and other opportunities. Nonprofit Board Member & Civic Leader | Education, D&I, Economic Development, & The Arts
CurrentWhen I returned to Cleveland (my hometown) in 2015 to take on the role of Managing Partner for PwC, I had the opportunity to engage in the Cleveland community and determine how the firm gave back to the city. As a result of this, I also was able to link up with multiple organizations and began seeing how I could truly make a difference on a local level. After retiring in the midst of the Covid-19 global pandemic in September of 2020, I took the time to reflect on who I am and what I aspire to be. In doing so, I determined that I wanted to turn my “retirement” into a second act wherein I can do my part to make an impact on society as a whole, particularly in the areas of education, economic development, diversity and inclusion, and the arts. My focus currently is on being a resource, partner, and advocate in my leadership capacities with the following organizations. Lake Erie Market / Cleveland Office Managing Partner
Throughout my 33-year career with PwC, I was able to develop my technical, business, relationship, and leadership skills through approximately 15 different roles at the Firm. I was asked to join the Deals/M&A business, then move to Miami, San Francisco, and ultimately back to Cleveland to lead the office in the market where I first joined and made partner many years prior. During the 5 years in my leadership role in Cleveland, I led a team of Partners to expand the Firm's brand and significantly grow revenues in the local market. As I made my way through these various roles, I had the opportunity to not only impact the business, but also the communities we existed within and the people that made up our teams. With this work, I became deeply interested in the areas of diversity and inclusion, community advocacy, team development, and what it takes to be an agile leader.
