About Mark Scott
Mark Scott earned two Bachelors of Music at the University of North Texas, and a Master of Music at the University of New Mexico. He studied trombone with Jan Kagarice and Karl Hinterbichler, composition with Cindy McTee, and conducting with Anshel Brusilow and Jorge Pérez-Gómez. Scott lives with his wife in Trophy Club, a Dallas suburb, where he has a diverse musical career. He teaches a large trombone studio, conducts the Flower Mound Philharmonic, performs, and composes commissioned works. His students enjoy a well-rounded curriculum and succeed at region-, state-, and college-level auditions. Many continue playing while pursuing other degrees at universities across the nation. Scott recently appeared as guest conductor of the Flower Mound Symphony, conducting Copland’s "An Outdoor Overture".At the American Trombone Workshop, Scott won the 2009 Division Three National Solo Competition, and the 2010 Composition Competition. He remains the only person who has won both. He is a founding member of the Bell Street Four trombone quartet, who won the 2008 International Trombone Festival Quartet Competition.In 2013, Scott’s "First Things" for concert band was chosen as a finalist in the Third International Frank Ticheli Composition Contest. His recent commissions include "Rachel’s Rondo" for oboe, bass trombone, and piano; and "Purple Trajectories" for nine trombones, which will receive its premiere at the 2015 American Trombone Workshop.
