I come from a long line of electricians, dating back to my grandfather. My career began as an electrical apprentice in 1984, in John S. Smith Electrical Contractors, Inc., my father's electrical contracting company. I attended trade school for four years, while working full-time from 1985-1989. In 1989, I took the Journeyman's Electrical Exam, passing and obtained my Journeyman's Electrician License from the State of Florida. In 1999, I attended a week long prep course offered through Mike Holt Enterprises to prepare for taking the State Certified Electrical Contractors Exam. I passed this exam in the top percentage of those I took the exam with, passing with a 92. While working in my father's company, I gained years of training, education and business management skills.
