On completion of Military Service, I was fortunate to be accepted by Grinaker Concrete Construction as a Civil Eng Technikon bursar. This course and practical training secured my career path. I spent 7 years with GCC completing my contract obligations. I then moved into the realms of the Building Industry and worked on some of the largest commercial building contracts in Johannesburg and Pretoria. I joined Rapp & Maister Construction C/O Liberty Life Properties in 1988 and worked on most of their blue-chip skyline developments and contracts at the time. In 1995 GC my ex-employer purchased the R&M entity and I continued my career with them until 2006 on contracts in RSA. I was promoted to GM to run an inherited Facade’s glass and cladding business. A key contract during this period was the Reserve Bank in Port Louis Mauritius. To ensure compliance, I was at the forefront of the logistics and coordination, commuting between Dubai, Mauritius, and RSA. The project was completed in 2006. I felt this was a great opportunity to start my own business.I started Kapele Construction (Sotho translation "in front and quick") and ran this business until 2010. Our business model was supported by high-end new domestic construction and backed by small to medium-sized commercial opportunities including refurbishments. In 2011 Murray & Roberts, head-hunted me to be their Operations Manager in Botswana overseeing/managing their construction projects in the country. I was involved with the first copper mine construction in Northern Botswana. In 2012 I joined the Wilson-Bailey Holmes Ovcon group (WBHO) as a Senior Contracts Manager. I managed many projects in Gauteng for the first 5 years. In 2017 I accepted an offer as GM to oversee the international building operation in West Africa based in Ghana. At the end of 2017, I was ready to move on and I opened my second company, MV Consultancy (Pty) Ltd. The business strategy was to provide project and construction management services to all stakeholders. The implosion of the local market resulted in the business not taking off. An opportunity to explore the overseas market arose. I was offered a position with a construction firm, Comast Construction Ltd, which I accepted and was based in London from 2019 - 2020. I returned to South Africa due to the COVID-19 impact.I have always had an enormous passion for sport. An opportunity arose for me to play club cricket in England in 1987. In 2010, I decided on a sabbatical and pursued a sports coaching career linked to Gauteng Cricket and the South African Rugby Board.
