Dr. Webb is a highly qualified and well experienced professional civil engineer with thirty years experience in buried structures, soil-structure interaction and finite element analysis (FEA). His specific focus is the structural design, analysis, installation, inspection and rehabilitation of large diameter gravity and pressure pipelines, sewers and force mains, large-span metal and reinforced concrete culverts, and cut-and-cover tunnels. He further specializes in condition assessment and proactive management of all water pipelines, sewers and force mains to extend the service life of aging infrastructure. Dr Webb mastered the challenging fields of advanced pipeline structural design and optimization to practical pipeline installation and backfilling to in-service pipeline leak detection and condition assessment to forensic and failure investigations, and lastly rehabilitation. For over a decade Dr Webb implemented leading pipeline condition assessment inspection technologies in South Africa saving millions of gallons of critically needed water. Work focus areas: • Finite element analysis (FEA) of buried pipes, culverts and buried bridges.• Condition assessment and pro-active management of sewers, force mains, gravity pipe and culverts, and pressure pipes (e.g., internal and external condition surveys, risk assessment, remaining useful life, and fitness-for-service). • Structural design, analysis and optimization of sewers, force mains, gravity pipe, pressure pipe, culverts, and buried bridges.• Pipeline rehabilitation using internal liners and external repairs (e.g., close-fit liners such as Cured-In-Place-Pipe (CIPP), bonded liners such as CFRP and GFRP, and loose-fit liners such as slip-lining).• Forensic investigations – buried pipes, culverts, tanks and buried bridges.• Soil properties for buried pipe and culvert design.• Geotechnical, structural, and hydraulic measurement instrumentation and monitoring.
