About Mark West

My journey in the IT industry started in 1995 as a trainee mainframe programmer. In 1996, I seized the chance to work in Oslo, Norway, and I've been here ever since! From 1999, I honed my skills as a Java Developer, Architect and Team Leader, before taking on a managerial role in Bouvet's Java Division in 2012. This role gave me experience with hiring and developing people, managing customer deliveries and growing a successful business unit.In November 2017, I was given the opportunity of building a Data Science competency centre at Bouvet from the ground up. This started my journey towards Data and Analytics, which continued in 2021 when I became the head of the Platform Insight and Analysis Division at Bouvet Øst.I have a passion for learning and sharing and have been a driving force behind numerous competency development initiatives at Bouvet, including the Bouvet Architect School and the BouvetOne conference. I have also been an active member of the Norwegian Java User Group (javaBin) where I served as Chairman from 2018 to 2020. I like to hold myself updated with the latest advances in technology and have blogged and spoken about cloud, machine learning and data science at over 50 events across Europe and the US.
