Support and advise all Further & Higher Education institutions across Scotland by providing inspirational leadership and consultancy in the deployment and use of Information and Communications Technology. Liaising with board, senior management and operational staff to develop strategic, operational and technical institutional solutions. As a result of the merger of 42 FE institutions into 13 across Scotland, I assisted in the management of the consolidation of institutional data systems and services such as college Student Records & Library Management Systems, and the integrating of IP networks.Key Achievement: I restructured the IT related projects that facilitated the merger of three large FE institutions, project value £1m. (City of Glasgow College 40,000 FTE). This required extensive interpersonal skills as well as IT technical knowledge to create & implement the required project frameworks. As a result, the Scottish Funding Council benefited from a substantial cost savings and the institutional merger project was hailed as exemplar across the sector. Scope: Deliver robust shared network hosting services and data communications infrastructure, including technical and management consulting services to 10 member colleges distributed across the city of Glasgow (10,000 workstations). The Glasgow Colleges Group was a shared service between 10 colleges, and so I was answerable to college principals & boards of management as well as the group chief executive. As Services Manager I developed and implement the central IT service strategy and managed 5 staff of administration, professional & technical support staff.Key Achievement: During this time I was the project manager for the Next Generation Library Management System project (£300k), where 10 disparate legacy library systems distributed across the city colleges were consolidated into a centralised networked system. I was responsible for all aspects from specifying, budgeting, procuring and implementing the system including staff training. Scope: Answerable to the head of IT, I was responsible for providing the university central IT hosting services, and a secure high performance data communications infrastructure for a 4000 workstation network. Before migrating to the single City Campus, the network I managed spanned 3 campuses across Glasgow. I would nurture working relationships between devolved faculty IT teams, campus estates office and central support teams. I implemented the universities first adoption of Service Level Agreements and Service Catalogue, identifying service key performance indicators. Key Achievement: I designed, procured and project managed the implementation of a new data communications infrastructure for the £14m new build health faculty building, and new data centre & communications infrastructure for the £5m Caledonian University Library & Information Centre.Created a framework enabling outsourced contract staff to work ad hoc with in house support staff. Managed the complete refurbishment of a campus structured wired infrastructure for 5000 telephony & data ports.
