About Mark L.
I worked in administrative roles for a number of high-profile bay area nonprofits (as well as some private sector companies) and specialized in helping to maintain accurate donor, membership, client, and mailing list information. I have contributed both project QA and written content for Benetech's Image Description Project, to which I found my background in history and art history were indispensable in identifying images and artifacts for textbooks. I was able to personally provide over 13,000 individual image descriptions, also providing editing and proofreading to the work of other contributors. As a result my work helped Benetech gain a $3M grant from the US Dept. of Education to continue their mission. I am truly a detail-oriented individual and brought my best efforts to assisting organizations and companies to achieve ultimately accurate informational records. But good luck getting me for any of that now, since all that was studiously ignored by hiring managers.. I worked the past ten years in Retail Sales but that's all history now... I have also worked the last ten years as a school crossing guard for the Los Altos and Mountain View/Whisman School Districts. But in my Real Life, I write fiction, have been a multi-instrumentalist musician for over four decades, and I do enjoy meeting new and diverse people. On my own terms. I take great joy in being able to contribute toward the betterment of society in addition to simultaneously being able to provide a means of self-support.
