    Over a 5+ year period I was a Consultant, Practice Director, and Senior Director. It was a great experience working with great people. In my final role I was the Senior Director of a large consulting unit called Integrated Solutions Group (ISG) within the Business Solutions division of Avnet Services. This role is often called a Business Unit Executive in the industry. ISG consists of four established practices: Business Process Management (BPM), Integration, Security, and Infrastructure. In this role my responsibilities and compensation were based on P&L of the business unit, also known as contribution margin. Beyond management responsibilities I worked with each of the practices on technology strategy, architectural patterns, product fit, solution assets, methodologies, and next-gen technology investments. Throughout the roles I worked directly with customers whenever possible and saw this as an important validation of my role. Prior to the Senior Director role I helped the company created and ramp up new practices. These roles could be considered “player-coach” roles. I was hands on as a featured consultant on many client projects. But the end goal was always to grow the new practice by creating happy customers, standardized methodologies, and increased capability. Typically these were in high growth markets related to application integration, appliances (DataPower and other), Big Data and Analytics (Data Warehouse, Streams Computing), workload optimized systems, cloud, and converged infrastructure (PureApplication). Duties include strategic planning, resource acquisition, technical software sales, complex & cutting edge architectures, project estimation, staffing, and execution of our client projects.
