It is my role as a Trainee Manager to gradually take on the responsibilities of an Area Manager in the supervision and coordination of timber purchasing, harvesting and sales in central southern England. The aims of the training period include developing competence in the following areas:• Organising felling permissions• Ensuring operations are safe and low impact• Ensuring Chain of Custody for FSC certified timber• Timber measurement and valuation• The use of GPS and Mapping tools• Timber purchasing• Timber marketing• Credit controlThe end result will be my ability to ensure the maximum financial return and quality of service for our suppliers. This service includes visiting sites to appraise access and timber quantity and then identify site risks, hazards and environmental considerations. After establishing the specification of products and the costs bringing the timber to market, a price can be offered to the landowner/manager. Upon the success of a tender it is the manager's responsibility to conduct the harvesting and haulage: the timber must be delivered to a buyer as soon after harvesting as feasible. Throughout this process the manager must ensure that all the work is carried out to industry standards set out by the Forest Industry Safety Accord.The independence of Euroforset from sawmills and forest managers puts the company in a strong position to ensure the best deal for all parties. Working predominantly in German it was my responsibility to support the Consumer Panel Services team in their work and learn about the market research business. The clients: Brand owners and retailers, need to know when, why, how much, in which conformation and at which price their products sell, in order to drive value and sales growth. One of the most interesting tools used shows the market potential which could be exploited and further analysis tools tell clients how to do this. Effective communication with my colleagues in person, by phone and by email was essential. As was, working to specific standards and having absolute accountability for the quality of my work.

Therefore, the main attributes required for this position were being a clear communicator and having high attention to detail. Shifts of 24 hours included providing personal care and assistance with scheduling, administration and travel arrangements. It was important to maintain a healthy working relationship and be aware of my employers situation. This meant being proactive about completing regular daily care tasks and anticipating my employer's needs. I was responsible for making sure that my employers days ran as smoothly as possible.
