As a VP of Commerce at Dotdash Meredith, I led the commerce teams for some of the most popular and trusted food, travel and pet sites in the world, including Travel + Leisure, Food and Wine, Serious Eats, and Allrecipes. Using a data driven approach, I worked closely with growth, product and design teams to ideate, create and optimize content and workflows. This led to revenue growth of over 100% across all brands in 12 months, while maintaining high standards of editorial quality, honing in on audience and commerce franchises. Working with social, video and events teams, I also brought the brands and their content to life on a plethora of platforms, from highly successful Travel + Leisure TikToks to a commerce installation at the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen. Following the initial Dotdash acquisition of Meredith I also oversaw the entire Legacy Dotdash commerce business, overseeing brands including Byrdie, Brides, The Spruce, Lifewire, Tripsavvy and others. I also worked closely with AI team on newsroom tools for the commerce team.

Working with IBM to help it rethink its communications strategy with a focus on audience and platform. Using data I was able to help IBM hone in on who it should be talking to, and the messages and features from its vast product portfolio that would resonate most. Senior counsel to IBM leaders on how to create compelling product stories around Cloud, AI and Good Tech, while helping Weber grow its North America Tech practice.

Working with Red Ventures (Owner of CNET, Bankrate, The Points Guy, Healthline) I launched a new B2C editorial site explaining and selling broadband to consumers. Working closely with product and sales teams both internally and with broadband providers, I was responsible for every aspect of editorial, from building a team and mentoring writers to creating a system to allow the content, SEO and affiliate teams to work together effectively. I helped create an SEO publishing framework for what users really look for in broadband and the challenges they face, working with our own writers and ISPs to hone this message based on feedback from users and even call center staff at RV who were talking to customers day in day out.

Based in New York, I had full responsibility for the global Science and Technology output of Dailymail.com, the world’s biggest newspaper website. I managed a team of specialist reporters in New York and London, and reported directly to the site’s publisher. It was an extremely wide ranging role, covering everything from managing daily news lists and commissioning and editing writers to working with sales and commercial departments on branded content pitches. I was also lucky enough to mentor junior writers who joined our trainee scheme, and to help set up the Daily Mail’s branded content arm. Also worked closely with CMS and data teams to create data driven dashboards showing editors in real time how their stories and headlines perform, helping optimize the 'journalistic crack' of Daily Mail content.

Based in San Francisco, I contributed daily to a range of publications, including Dailymail.com, The London Evening Standard, Stuff, Wired, T3 and the Daily Telegraph. I also wrote a regular column for T3 magazine, and covered everything from Sheryl Sandberg’s new house to Google and NASA’s quantum computing project.

Responsible for all science, technology and environment content for the London Evening Standard newspaper and its website. Role included sourcing and writing stories for the news and features sections for three editions of the paper each day, commissioning freelance writers and working with advertising and promotions teams on special projects. I also took an editing role on major topics such as the London riots, where I coordinated reporters across the capital and managed our coverage. I also spearheaded the Dispossessed, a campaign for the underprivileged in London which has so far raised over £10m, and is still running today, and became the newspaper’s motorcycle reviewer.

Worked as a volunteer at a rainforest site in Mefou, Cameroon. I was a carer working primarily with gorillas orphaned by the bushmeat trade, and also helped overhaul the charity's website.

Co-founded and ran a small Internet production company specialising in creating sites for the music industry. Worked with Sony, EMI and others, creating dozens of band, record labels and music PR company sites.

Data driven role working with the first wave of handsets able to download content. I led the creation of the first downloadable game app for mobile phones in the UK. I worked with product, content and marketing teams across Vodafone's international businesses as well as leading business development for game content, bringing everyone from Sega and Namco to our platform via an innovative app, in a world before app stores existed.

Began as the first full time journalist employed to cover the internet on a national newspaper in the UK, and became the editor on Innovation, a three page science/technology section of The Sunday Times. This was replaced by Doors, a 32 page printe section where I was the deputy editor.

Position began as a work experience placement in February 1994 on Business Computer World, which led to a staff writer position on graduation. Responsible for commissioning features and reviews for several sections of the magazine, I also contributed features, group tests (including testing machines in VNU’s Lab), news, news analysis, reviews and interviews.
