Parc was an Imperial College spin-off using combinatorial techniques to develop software for traffic inferencing and backup path placement for Tier 1 carrier IP networks. My role was to manage and lead a team of engineers and academics to pilot our techniques on real large-scale networks worldwide. These included networks from MCI-Worldcom, Cable and Wireless, Deutsche Telekom, Korea Telecom and NTT, Parc was acquired by Cisco in 2003 as a technology component provider for £15,000,000.

I was offered the opportunity to work in Munich at the centre of Cable and Wireless £500 million worth of European ISP acquisitions. My role involved running a team of 20+ web and database development staff with a drive to monetise the hitherto ‘free’ network consultancy offered by the network team. Responsible for the management and enhancement of the European Commission’s Textile import tariff management systems. This required the networking and data integration of customs data from all member states and onwards reporting and management of this data in negotiation with the major (mostly East Asian) textile producing countries.
