Martin’s primary role covers the preparation and review of Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) required to inform Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Habitat Regulation Assessments (HRA). Martin’s recent commissions include multiple projects in the UK/Scottish renewable energy sector with particular emphasis on ecological advice regarding wind farms, both onshore and offshore, and other infrastructure developments. Tendering, survey design, project management, budgets, Health and Safety, Due Diligence and provision of legal advice are all key roles undertaken. Staff mentoring and management come naturally with business development and client care.

Worked closely with Bird Studies Canada, Parks Canada and various other volunteers. Reference available. Volunteered with Nature Canada re birds and renewable developments.Egypt (2010): five-week search for Slender-billed Curlew in northern Egypt for Birdlife International, and simultaneously surveying Important Bird Areas (IBAs) and RAMSAR sites for habitat and species change. Worked with Egyptian officials and Nature Conservation Egypt.Syria (spring 2009): http://gettingsociableinsyria.blogspot.com/ The Sociable Lapwing has suffered huge declines and is now listed as critically endangered. In a team collaboration with the Syrian Society for the Conservation of Wildlife (SSCW) and the Syrian Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, undertook surveys and local relation buildings to highlight this species over a 5 week period in Syria. We also worked with UNDP GEF and Syrian authorities to set up protected areas in Syria at Jebel Abdul Aziz (desert) and Abu Quibes (montane maquis forest).North Carolina (1998): two months’ work at Sylvan Heights Wildfowl Park assisting in rearing rare and endangered wildfowl for conservation projects worldwide.Falkland Islands (1997/98): six months’ work on the Islands as a tour guide for Falklands Island Development Company, supplemented with field survey work at sites seeking RAMSAR qualification for wildfowl and seabird assemblages.Armenia (1995): worked on Birds of Armenia project, based in Yerevan, Armenia for seven months at American University of Armenia in partnership with Muhlenberg College, Pennsylvania, undertaking fieldwork and data collection for the first ornithological survey of this newly declared nation.

Writing detailed planning responses and reports, meeting with developers, consultants, working with national government, local authorities and statutory agencies, meeting with politicians from local level to government ministers.
