After almost 20 years of physical pain, a 12 year-late diagnosis, and 8 years of infertility, I needed a medical hysterectomy. Because my diagnosis could've come sooner with knowledge of fertility awareness based methods, or NFP, I became a Creighton Practitioner and co-founded a non-profit, FAbM Base (fabmbase.org) to create resources that meet the myriad health and family planning needs of women and couples with compassion and authenticity. We serve individuals and organizations who hope to improve education and access.The late diagnosis and lack of awareness of my options for treatment, especially as a devout Catholic surrounded by a church that is known to promote NFP, motivates me and my friend/business partner, Emily, to give the gift of knowledge to women of all ages. Infertility, a result of my late diagnosis, challenged my health and faith deeply. My good and beautiful desire to have children was met with a cyclic rejection which added to the physical suffering I had become very familiar with.Rather than trying to escape or distract my broken heart, I stepped into and explored the pain God allowed and was shocked to find purpose and, eventually, acceptance. Infertility forged a shocking path to fruitfulness as I discovered the fullness of God's call to parenthood, fertility, procreativity, and unity. This is a promising message not only for the infertile, but for those who are able to have children, too.The surprising peace I entered into my final surgery with inspired a memoir: "Twelve Stripes Deep: How Infertility & Other Suffering Delivered My Greatest Joys." This 16 chapter book explores women's healthcare, fertility awareness, suffering, adoption, IVF, menopause, spiritual motherhood, sex and marriage and more.Although I do have in-depth experience with infertility, I am passionate about speaking to women from any reproductive background. I have been speaking for many years, and can provide dynamic talks on women's health, fertility awareness, infertility, suffering, the fullness of fruitfulness (whether fertile or infertile), adoption, or sex and marriage.Please contact me if you are interested in inviting me to speak at your event.
