Profile bio

About Mary Schultz

I have worked as a hospital Pharmacy Technician since 1986. I've prepared routine IV's such as antibiotics, filled Unit Dose carts and compounded medications such as creams and ointments. I've prepared parenteral nutrition IV bags primarily for intensive care patients and chemotherapy IV's for oncology patients. I've also worked as the pharmacy purchaser, and as the narcotic technician. Today I work for a hospital and I manage the pyxis machines. I love technology and I find this job to be exciting and challenging. Patient safety is my number one goal and I feel pyxis is a good tool to use, to achieve this. Of course a machine is only as good as the person who operates it. That is why my job is so important. I am there to monitor and make sure things are being done safely and correctly. In 2007, Scottsdale Healthcare opened a new hospital. I was asked to go there and set up the pharmacy and the pyxis machines in all the new nursing areas. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity which I found to be very exciting. It was a true learning experience that I will never forget. I am very proud and grateful I had the opportunity to be a part of it.Specialties: Automated Dispensing Systems, Narcotic Procedures

Listed skills include Supervisor, Insurance, Pharmacy, and Technician.

Pharmacy Technician

St. John Hospital And Medical Center

This hospital is located in Detroit, Michigan and it is where I learned "how" to be a pharmacy technician. At this hospital I saw every kind of trauma and more. It was a great place to learn.Performed routine tasks such as:1) Filling unit dose carts2) Delivering meds to nursing units3) Answering phones4) Compounded daily IV's, Chemotherapy IV's, TPN IV's as well as ointments, creams, liquids, etc...as requested by the pharmacist.Initial team member, for installation and set up, of the new Pharmacy Robot.Held the role of Narcotic Technician. This job included:1) Filling and delivering all scheduled drugs to the appropriate areas2) Making sure all paperwork was complete and accurate3) Investigating and trying to find a resolution to all nursing and pharmacy discrepancies4) Filling, delivering and reconciling the physicians anesthesia boxesParticipated as a member on many teams and committees. These groups consisted of nursing and pharmacy staff members. Our main goals were to evaluate our procedures, try to find more efficient ways of doing things and to establish good and open communication between nursing and pharmacy. Working together and listening to each other ultimately resulted in better patient care and a safer environment for our patients.
