CurrentEmployment Counselor, Mediator and Trial LawyerI provide proactive counseling, walking employers through employee hiring, compensation, development, discipline, leaves of absence, accommodation of disability, EEO complaints and terminations. I conduct employer audits, counseling and training, produce employer policies, procedures and contracts, defend employers in single plaintiff and multi-plaintiff representative employment actions from investigation through trial or arbitration, defend employers in state and federal administrative hearings (DLSE, DFEH, EEOC, EDD, WCAB), represent employers in alternative dispute resolution venues (mediation, early neutral evaluation, settlement conferences). On December 12, 2016, I celebrated my 27th year of practicing law. My career has been devoted to finding practical solutions to employment disputes – both pre-litigation and pre-trial. Although I continue to try cases as an aggressive advocate for my clients, I remain convinced that sometimes the best way to win a fight is not to fight at all. With that in mind, I completed a rigorous training course to become a mediator last spring and am adding single-party mediation to my ongoing legal practice. I am accepting engagements to mediate in both employer-driven in-house mediation programs and case-driven pre-trial dispute resolution. Give me a call the next time you need a mediator with experience in the application of employment laws to real-life situations but who also understands what it means to try cases to a California jury.
