Systems Designer

Phoenix, Arizona Area

I’ve had the privilege of working on several teams in my time at American Traffic Solutions (now Verra Mobility), in a combination of mobile and web applications, and back end file processing. My primary team supports commercial and rental fleets, managing the end to end toll management process from registering license plates with toll authorities to processing tolls and creating billings. In addition to managing the user story backlog and assisting the Product Manager with prioritization, I provide IT support to the business teams such as account Management, Operations and Customer Service. We operate in a fast-paced Agile environment with twisting and turning priorities. While accustomed to this aspect of software development, ATS has stretched me in other ways. Aside from learning a new vertical, I’ve gone from user interface mockups and story boards to an emphasis on Visio cross functional flow charts and interface control documents. Its forced me out of my comfort zone and broadened my overall work experience. One of the highlights of my time at Verra Mobility, was working on a team that created a mobile and web application from the ground up, resulting in a successfully product launch (and ongoing product success). Beginning with a functional overview, I worked as the business analyst responsible for requirements gathering and creation of user stories, and working with the team until product launch. On the morning of the product launch we all came in at 4:00 AM to support our East Coast users and waited as they all came online, gathered in a command center ready to resolve any issues they encountered. There was silence. The launch was seamless.

Enterprise Analyst

Jda

Scottsdale, Az

My primary area of focus has been pricing, promotions, markdowns and advertising, but for the last several years I’ve been involved in capturing requirements for a broad range of retail and supply chain solutions, from assortment planning to business graphs and strategic planning. The challenge in this position is that it requires two avenues of communication. First I have to communicate functional requirements to a Development team. This starts with gathering requirements from customers, both internal (Sales) and external (Customers) and then transforming them into something Product Development can use. Over time, I’ve communicated to Development using functional requirements documents, user stories, PowerPoint, Visio diagrams, screen mock-ups and verbal explanation. We work in an Agile environment, so some of this work is prepared up front, while the rest is developed as necessary within a sprint. The second form of communication is explaining new functionality both internally and to the outside world. I’ve done this via product demonstrations, PowerPoint demonstrations, online help and Camtasia videos.Last but not least, I do my part to test new and existing functionality as part of each software release.

Jan 2006 - Jul 2016

Senior Business Analyst

Scottsdale, Az

Jan 2003 - Dec 2005

Software Designer

Scottsdale, Az

Oct 2000 - Dec 2002

Quality Assurance Supervisor

Scottsdale, Az

I managed a small team responsible for testing eCommerce applications and software integrations. There were several integrations, but the primary one was the integration of a host merchandising system to POS.

May 2000 - Sep 2000

Quality Assurance Analyst

Scottsdale, Az

I worked on a team that tested a host merchandising system. Because the system offered such broad functionality, it took time and effort to become an expert in all areas of the software. I used my knowledge to improve the software by creating and executing test plans. I also used this time to build relationships with the training department, explaining and demonstrating functionality to support their efforts in creating training materials. My efforts were noticed, and eventually I was promoted to Quality Assurance Supervisor and from there took a role in designing enhancements to the software.

Oct 1998 - Apr 2000

Manager, Sales Audit

Phoenix, Arizona Area

I managed a team responsible for gathering, auditing and reporting on sales data for a large grocery chain, providing comparable store sales to management on a daily basis, followed by audited numbers on a weekly basis. In addition to standard reports, I learned how to run SQL queries to support the many requests I received for ad hoc reports.I also acted as the business user in many IT projects related to the sales database, assisting in creation of requirements documents and performing user acceptance testing. One very successful project that I worked on was successfully rolling out sales data management software to all drug stores owned by American Stores, what at the time was over one thousand stores.
