He was a DeBlois-Sewanee scholar at Tulane where he tried and won a federal trial as a student-lawyer, obtaining the Civil Clinic’s highest judgment on record. Before law school Matt managed a hardwood sawmill in Virginia and worked as a newspaper reporter for the Abbeville Meridional.In 1992 Matt earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. There he was a Gownsman (a member of the academic honor society), a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, and an all-conference varsity baseball player.Matt served as a Page in the United States House of Representatives where he was promoted to Overseer and ultimately to Speaker’s Page.Matt is a member of the Rotary Club of Lafayette and the Dad’s Club at the Schools of the Sacred Heart.
