The Citizen Diplomacy Action Fund (CDAF) provides grants of up to $10,000 to teams of two or more U.S. government-sponsored exchange alumni to carry out public service projects that advance U.S. policy goals. My project, Qusar Youth Leadership Camp, was an eight-day summer English immersion day camp for 9 to 15-year-olds in the village of Imamgulukend, Azerbaijan. The region is home to the Lezgin people, an ethnic and linguistic minority. The project built community through creative activities, sports, games, nature activities, and workshops focused on leadership and environmental education, and provided participants with new skills, experiences, and conceptual tools.
