● Cross-cultural management. Serve as a liaison between program staff in Latin America and administrative, development and communications staff in the United States. Developed educational trips in Ecuador for NCI board members & donors. ● Strategic and site-based planning. Developed management plans for two private protected areas (6,700 acres total) in the Ecuadorian Amazon to maximize habitat connectivity and minimize human – wildlife conflicts. Recently began developing decision matrices and other project planning tools that fully account for project life cycle costs. ● Strategic communications. Reflecting the NGO marketing trend toward storytelling, wrote and published a number of narrative essays in Ecuadorian newspapers and for NCI newsletter and website. Recently began developing communications plans for US, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru offices. ● Project development and grant writing. Co-wrote $1.2M in successful grants to support the declaration of 950,000 acres of new protected areas in Ecuador. ● Program management. Managed a community tourism project with indigenous Shuar and mestizo communities, providing training, planning and basic infrastructure support to develop tourism as a sustainable livelihood in Nangaritza Valley. ● Partnership building. Cultivated a nascent research partnership with Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies to develop methodology and metrics to monitor NCI’s impact. First researcher scheduled for May – August 2018. ● Curriculum development and teaching. Developed curriculum, co-wrote training manual and taught two-day conservation module as part of a year-long national training course for municipal watershed managers.

● Board of Directors. Worked closely with board leadership to set organization’s agenda, develop policy positions, and foster a cohesive organizational culture of collaboration and partnership. Led board through long-term strategic planning, board and committee re-structuring, fundraising plan development, and annual organizational and program evaluation.● Personnel. Hired, supervised and directed a staff team of six in the performance of their duties, evaluated annual performance and provided overall control and direction for staff development and personnel actions. ● Fundraising and resource development. Increased annual membership gifts by 400% in four years. Initiated major, legacy, and challenge gift matching programs and successfully funded an operations endowment. Wrote numerous successful grants to public and private foundations. Personally solicited and secured major gifts of up to $75,000. ● Strategic communications. Developed and implemented a successful strategy to communicate a compelling vision of the Council as a collaborative, science-based organization. In the process, changed the dominant narrative and public perception of Johnson Creek from flooding and pollution to ecological recovery. ● Strong operations (financial, grant and contract management). ● Policy analysis for $6.3M United States Federal Feasibility Study to restore instream flows / Tribal fishing rights in the Walla Walla River. Policy & technical analysis of project alternatives with biweekly briefings to Tribal leaders. ● Coordinated budget & deliverables, and ensured regulatory compliance with Army Corps (federal partner). ● Partnership building / Watershed Planning. Developed successful public – private partnerships with farm irrigation districts and local watershed council, integrating irrigation efficiency into flow restoration analysis. As Tribes’ representative on Walla Walla Planning Unit negotiated minimum instream flow levels in Walla Walla River to protect salmon.

• Analysis and planning. Synthesized existing evidence for Santa Ana Pueblo’s negotiated position in the Rio Jemez federal water rights adjudication. Analyzed gaps in existing evidence, developed a work plan and budget and hired subcontractors to develop missing elements.• Fundraising. Wrote two successful funding proposals to the Bureau of Indian Affairs to support the technical basis of the water rights adjudication. • Ecological monitoring. Surface and groundwater monitoring, Southwestern Willow Flycatcher presence-absence surveys, fixed-radius avian point counts, mammal and reptile surveys with pitfall traps, and helicopter reconnaissance surveys.
