Visiting Professor of Law and Interim Director of the Virginia Capital Case Clearinghouse clinic. Supervised clinic participants assisting defense attorneys in capital cases throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Taught weekly seminar on death penalty as well as immersion course. Provided direct representation in two death penalty cases.

Represented indigent Virginia inmates seeking post-conviction relief from wrongful convictions. Supervised twelve students each year in legal clinic. Instruction included reviewing cases and identifying candidates for acceptance into the clinic, investigation and factual development of those cases, drafting petitions, motions, and other pleadings, working with experts, consulting with partnering law firms, and oral advocacy. Taught weekly seminar on topics related to post-conviction litigation.

Represented indigent defendants in Virginia death penalty cases. Performed fact and mitigation investigations, worked with expert witnesses, researched legal claims, drafted motions and pleadings, conducted pre-trial hearings, negotiated settlements, and tried capital cases. Represented death-sentenced inmates in direct appeals to the Supreme Court of Virginia. Hired and supervised legal interns. Consulted with local attorneys appointed in capital cases.

Represented Virginia death row inmates in state and federal habeas corpus, appellate, and clemency proceedings. Conducted investigations and evidentiary hearings, researched legal claims, and drafted pleadings. Argued in Supreme Court of Virginia and United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Planned and conducted attorney training and CLE programs. Hired and supervised legal interns.
