‘You’re not selling software, you’re selling being home on time.’These words, told to me by an old boss, have stayed with me throughout my almost 20 years in the SaaS and Digital Marketing industries. They help me remember that it’s my job to not only meet the stated goals of a customer organization, but also the goals of the individuals that make up that organization. I understand that the needs of a CTO are not the same as the needs of a Systems Engineer, and that I need to meet both.Through a well honed discovery process and active listening, I specialize in understanding each individual’s drivers, blockers, and anxieties. I then make sure that every demo, training, presentation, conversation or email speaks to at least some of them. This is how I create champions that will advocate for me and my employer in the most important meetings of all - the ones that I'm not in.My number one priority is credibility in the eyes of my customers. I achieve this by making sure I know everything I can about the subjects I’m talking about with them. I pride myself on my ability to learn quickly and deeply - I’ve switched industries a number of times in my career and have always become adept at talking about my new field ahead of schedule and enjoyed the process. When I don’t have an answer immediately, I always follow up - my customers soon learn that ‘I’ll get back to you on that’ is never an empty promise. I always communicate honestly because I know that if I don’t, people won't be honest with me.I started my career as a corporate copywriter and children’s novelist, and I take great pride in the quality of my written communication. Whether it’s an email, an RFP response or a white paper, I write persuasively and with clarity, tailoring my message to the audience and the medium.I think I’ve been successful in my career so far because people come away from every interaction with me feeling like they were listened to and that what they said mattered.
