For my second internship at Carrier I was tasked with deploying a powder coat paint cell. My role was assisting the manufacturer Yaskawa with building a paint booth, followed by programming two MPX 3500 robots to paint 20+ different parts. Different jobs were created and then filled with steps needed to paint the parts. Linear motion and joint motion were utilized along with point level modifiers and spray commands.Once the motion was complete I also adopted the role of camera programmer. Given a Cognex camera running Insight Explorer 5.9.2 I had to differentiate between the parts, having a byte output that told the robots what they were painting. The camera gave the most substantial issues, it was unable to differentiate the features of parts that passed through. In order to increase contrast the camera was given LEDs to aid it.My side projects included designing and implementing new areas in the factory, 3D printing fixtures, 3D printing scale models of our products, developing a presentation showing factory automation for company management, and writing documentation.Through these tasks I had to use a manual mil in order to cut the parts I designed as well as many other machines in out shop.I was given these responsibilities after a successful prior internship and out of necessity as we were short handed with engineers.
