My PhD research explores the development of emotion understanding, with a focus on how children perceive and interpret emotions in the human voice and in music. Findings are applied to the development of music-based practice and interventions centred on emotional development, particularly for children with socio-emotional difficulties. I have been presented my work at numerous conferences.

I worked within a small team of child assessors, tasked with working with children referred to the Neurodevelopment Assessment Unit due to experiencing behavioural, emotional, and/or cognitive difficulties. I worked with children to complete tasks exploring their strengths and difficulties at behavioural and physiological levels. Results were reported to schools and families in order to provide improved, targeted support aligned with each child's specific needs.

I was tasked with designing, conducting, and presenting a piece of research exploring changes in parenting styles and practices over time, and links between these practices and outcomes for child development. Specifically, the project was interested in changes in the use of physical punishment over time, and associated child outcomes, in the 10 years leading up to the prohibition of physical punishment in Wales. The role involved work within a team of policy researchers and analysts, while working closely with policymakers to optimise the research's impact. A social policy research report was produced and published, alongside presentations to analytical and policymaking colleagues, and briefings to ministers.

I worked with Dr. Felicity Sedgewick on a project focussed on the mental health of autistic students at the University of Bristol. The mixed-methods study aimed to gain a qualitative and quantitative insight into autistic students' mental health experiences at university, to inform services regarding how this populations's needs can be better met. Responsibilities included:- data collection through interviews and questionnaires; - data management, analysis, and visualisation;- project logistics;- report writing;- writing and editing academic papers.
