My research projects at SLU focused on epigenetic changes relating to plant development. In particular, this involved studying histone modifications caused by the polycomb group repressive complex and the subsequent higher order chromatin changes leading to gene repression. To identify these changes I used a range of molecular techniques such as ChIP, expression analysis by qPCR, DNase and MNase assays to investigate nucleosome and DNA accessibility changes, proximity ligation assay to determine protein interactions, and next generation sequencing for large scale studies.Alongside these projects, I also investigated the role of non-B DNA structures in gene regulation. This required development of a new technique termed the structural bisulfite assay to determine the presence of these structures in vivo. Using this new method I was able to identify the first endogenous DNA cruciform structure in Arabidopsis.Supervisor: Prof. Lars Hennig

Teaching of the Undergraduate Genetics II module

My doctoral thesis concerned the recruitment of DNA methylation to specific DNA structural elements of transgenes in the model organism Arabidopsis thaliana.
