The Industrial Engineer at Firestone Building Products will work with the 15 maufacturing plants of different building product materials. This position will work through 6Sigma problem solving to improve processes and leverage best practice sharing across multiple facilities.Some of the main responsibilities of this position include. 1) Identifying Six Sigma projects and completing them with the goal of helping the manufacturing plants. All Six Sigma projects that the Industrial Engineer leads follow the DMAIC cycle and has a validated cost savings associated with it.2) Training Yellow Belt classes at all of the manufacturing facilities. This includes developing a problem statement with the Plant Manager (Voice of Customer) and then building a team and preparing for a 1 week training event. The leader of the Yellow Belt class will then train 4-8 Operators / Supervisors / Maintenance Tech's on the basics of Lean & Six Sigma knowledge. The Yellow Belt course also is directed at improving upon the initial problem statement, and allows the operators to apply Six Sigma & Lean tools to complete improvement actions by the end of the week.3) Support the plants in all of their Continuous Improvement tools. This includes projects and lead by the Industrial Engineer to assist in 5S, Standard Driven Process (SDP), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Asset Sustainability (TPM), Six Sigma.4) Support and mentor trained belts within the organization. This means following up and coaching a majority of the trained green and black belts to help these students finish their projects and utilize the tool set learned in Lean & Six Sigma training.

Projects of improvement included creating a stable process for smaller lots sizes to be delivered to the plant from the warehouse, developing checks for increased inventory accuracy, and develop recording measure for receiving exceptions to help decrease process time.

This individual will be the main point of contact for customer on-sites on issues related to the engineering function, and will be expected to drive the team’s completion of standard work and continuous improvement activities.
