Arthur Brown specializes in patent research in physical sciences. Part of his work is performed as a contractor to the USPTO on PCT filings. Arthur conducts searches based on the claims of international applications, and completes both the international search report and the written opinion. The non-binding written opinion comprehensively assesses whether the claims meet the requirements of PCT Article 33(1)-33(3) having novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability, parallel to questions of anticipation, obviousness, and eligible subject matter under 35 USC §101-103.Arthur also employs his expertise in private searches on behalf of individuals, attorneys or corporations to determine prior art that is relevant to questions of validity, patentability, and freedom to operate, and provides detailed analysis of client disclosures compared to the existing art. Representative subject matter for both PCT and private work includes LEDs and related circuitry, optics, solar and other power circuitry, and other physical science related technologies.His educational background includes a BS in Physics, with a senior thesis on hysteresis exhibited in the resistivity measurements of thin films of crystalline vanadium dioxide. At law school, he served as Vice President on the Moot Court Executive Board, and later as an Associate Editor on Law Review. He competed in four moot court competitions in three years, which ultimately lead him to the national finals of the Giles S. Rich patent law competition, where he argued before mock judges in the courtrooms of the Federal Circuit in Washington D.C.Arthur loves all things adventure, including all aspects of mountaineering, running, swimming, among other things. He recently ran in the Sedona marathon, and currently serves as the assistant scoutmaster in his local Boy Scout troop 412.
