Frank Recruitment Group is a global leader that specialises in recruitment in the technology sector. As a member of the development team I was responsible for developing and supporting the MIS. The MIS was central to the business and consisted of the ability to view reports relating to key business processes, manage employees through the HR module and to facilitate the management of Job leads. The MIS was built on the Zend platform but also implemented Eloquent ORM within an MVC architecture, and used GIT for version control. Key highlights of working on the MIS include, the development of a number of automated cron jobs and the redevelopment of existing modules to work with a different hierarchical structure to fit the business needs for reports.

Working closely with the Principals of each of the four schools I was tasked with developing new websites for the four institutes as well as developing a website for central services. The websites are all built on the Wordpress cms platform and have been customised to fit the needs of the institutes. I was involved through the whole life cycle of developing the websites, from initial requirements gathering, developing design mock-ups to the configuration and development of the CMS as well as deploying the websites.In addition to the work with the websites, I was also tasked with the development and the ongoing management of an application that will allow for the generation of the annual School Workforce Census return. The process requires an xml file to be generated from csv, in accordance with the DFE schema. This xml file is then merged with another xml file, generating the final return for the year as well as identifying any errors with the data. Amendments are required each year to the application based upon any changes to the DFE schema.

With the Emmanuel Schools Foundation, I was initially employed to work as part of a development team to implement a heavily customised VLE (BlackBoard) to service the schools within the foundation. Primarily my role was based upon designing and developing a number of themes that could be used across multiple user groups. The themes were developed using CSS and application such as Illustrator and Photoshop. In addition to the theme development for various Key Stage user groups, research had to be undertaking to develop a theme for users that have Special Educational Needs (SEN). Theme development required the application to work consistently across multiple browser platforms. Custom module design and development set by specification also played a major part of my work, this involved; understanding what the stakeholder wants, identify the end user, determine if their vision is achievable with the time and resources available and also relay any recommendations I can make. The custom modules were developed in Java and Javascript was used for additional functionality.

I was contracted to work alongside two other developers to design and develop a greenfield project. The application allowed users to gain secure access to their user account where they could offer their services to provide assistance to any requests that are posted. The system was developed for a number of different user roles, with a large user base. CodeIgniter was used to develop the application within an HMVC architecture. To develop effectively together on the same application, version control was essential to ensure that all could work on developing and merging of changes to promote to the production environment had little to no impact on each other.

Reporting directly to the IT Manager, I was responsible for the redevelopment and the eventual maintenance of the corporate website. Designed and developed from a specification of requirements provided by the stakeholder, the development of the website allowed for me to expand on my knowledge base of using PHP/MySQL and SEO techniques. The end result was a fully standards compliant website that worked consistently over multiple browser platforms, and most importantly surpassed the stakeholders expectations and needs.
