Provide policy expertise, advice, and assistance to local governments, Oregon Coastal Management Program (OCMP) staff, and other state or federal agencies on the policies of the Oregon Coastal Management Program, with emphasis on Statewide Planning Goals 16, Estuarine Resources, 17, Coastal Shorelands, and 18, Beaches and Dunes, and coastal resources covered by Goal 5, Natural, Scenic, and Historic Resources.Provide technical assistance to local governments on the development or revision of estuary and shoreland management plans. Advise local governments, the Ocean and Coastal Services Division manager and other program staff, agency director, legislators, advisory committees, and the public on the effect of existing or proposed laws, regulations, standards, and policies pertaining to coastal resources and coastal land use.

Provide technical assistance and policy advice to coastal local governments and state agencies on local coastal issues, including on development proposals or other actions in coastal shore areas where coastal resources are affected or where geologic processes may be hazardous to development.Serve as agency liaison to scientific research community and on state task forces and advisory committees; keep agency staff and local governments informed of changing regulatory requirements.Manage grant projects and sub awards with multiple communities and organizations working on resilience land use projects, especially pertaining to tsunami and coastal hazard planning. Provide expertise on coastal hazard planning to multiple stakeholder groups and work to connect complementary initiatives to build a more resilient Oregon coast.Direct outreach campaign for Oregon’s King Tides Photo Project with project partners - a program that encourages anyone with a camera to photograph the highest tides of the year in order to start envisioning impacts of sea level rise and identify areas of highest vulnerability for adaptation or mitigation measures. Managed the Abandoned and Derelict Vessel Removal Program, as well as the Clean Marina and Clean Boater Programs.Worked with County and State Law Enforcement offices to ensure clean, navigable waterways.Represented the agency on several working groups for small oil spill prevention, marine debris, and derelict vessels.Worked to improve Oregon's waters through partnerships with the boating and marina communities.

Evaluated the impact of erosion and shoreline armoring on Oregon's beaches through creation and analysis of up-to-date shoreline armoring and coastal hazard datasets, in order to identify vulnerable coastal areas, evaluate effectiveness of current policies, and integrate current information about future climate change impacts. Coordinated with coastal land-use planners, state agency staff, oceanfront homeowners, and non-profit groups to leverage local knowledge, integrate stakeholder values, and collaboratively design potential policy and management changes or actions to more effectively address erosion issues and balance the protection of private property and the public beach.Managed development of a user-friendly online tool of coastal hazard information targeted to state and local land-use planners and coastal management practitioners.Directed outreach campaign for Oregon’s King Tides Photo Project with project partners - a program that encourages volunteers to become citizen scientists by photographing the highest tides of the year in order to start envisioning impacts of sea level rise and identify areas of highest vulnerability for adaptation or mitigation measures. Researched and synthesized information from stormwater-related grant funded projects to improve knowledge transfer and learning between NOAA National Estuarine Research Reserves.

Enhanced stakeholder engagement for a 3-year collaborative research project through a targeted science communication plan. Created science communication products (videos, fact sheets, displays) incorporating research results for non-scientist audiences. Utilized surveys, interviews, and focus groups with stakeholder participant groups in order to create useable, relevant, and targeted communication products.

Led outreach programs for this organization, which works to protect the marine water quality in the New York/ New Jersey Bight through research, public education and citizen action efforts.Outreach work included cultivating relationships with towns, businesses, organizations, and citizens to support ocean protection initiatives; presenting regularly to town councils, organizations, and at events; coordinating advocacy actions, rallies, and hearings; and managing the recruitment, training, and administration of a robust volunteer program.Directed social media and email communication strategies for ocean protection initiatives and contributed actively to monthly newsletter, website, briefings, reports, and other publications.Developed and coordinated yearly educational programs for middle- and high-school students around marine issues, as well as assisted the Education Coordinator with regularly-occurring statewide beach cleanups.
