SeaCamp San Diego is a marine biology based outdoor education camp for kids. As a marine science instructor, I educated various aged students in a hands-on environment through marine science activities and labs. Our labs consisted of lessons focused on a variety of marine biology themes including invertebrates, fish, plankton, marine mammals, and night time adaptations, and usually involved a dissection. Our outdoor activities included snorkeling, kayaking, boogie boarding, boat trips, excursions to SeaWorld and the San Diego Zoo. Shifts are scheduled as full days, overnights in dorms with campers, maintenance and facility upkeep including handling and cleaning tanks of live fish, as well as office paperwork.
Animal Care And Training
Provide daily support to Navy Marine Mammal Program staff while receiving a dynamic and educational hands-on experience in the field of marine mammal care and training. Responsible for diet preparation, sanitation, equipment and facility maintenance. Assist the marine mammal training and animal care staff in daily husbandry training sessions, open ocean training, animal physicals, and different research projects through use of operant conditioning techniques.
