The Community Technology Empowerment Project is a year-long AmeriCorps program focused on bridging the digital divide in the Twin Cities, specifically for low-income and immigrant communities. My specific host site is with the City of Minneapolis IT Department, where I work as part of a 'Digital Inclusion Team' in carrying out projects and cultivating relationships.Responsibilities and tasks include:-Website re-build for the Technology Literacy Collaborative (Drupal to WordPress)-Content creation and editing for multiple web platforms -Strategic communications with the City of Minneapolis Communications Department-Collaboration with other groups and organizations around digital inclusion issues -Event coordination for monthly 'Fix-It Tech' events located in North and South Minneapolis as well as an upcoming computer distribution-Volunteer management associated with the Fix-It Tech events-Digital literacy instruction (with an emphasis on employment) at the WorkForce Center in North Minneapolis and with asylee women in Saint Paul

My position here involved a lot of content generation in the form of blog posts and customer stories. In addition to researching and writing (and sometimes taking photos!), I edited posts from other staff members as well. Once finished, I then published materials using WordPress.It was also my responsibility to create and manage a social media calendar along with posting on our associated outlets. In relation to that, I started gathering marketing metrics to measure social media effectiveness.

While here, I was put in charge of creating the organization's first storybank. This involved reaching out to a great number of external organizations and MI citizens to collect stories touching on various socio-economic issues. In addition to this project, I wrote a blog which is linked below and an op-ed that was published via multiple outlets, which is published even further down. I also helped summarize a paper for analysts and fact-checked data for their 'Making Ends Meet' Calculator.

Much of my time here consisted of visiting refugee clients on behalf of the Match Grant program. This entailed donation documentation as well as assisting them with needed resources and employment. Often, I found myself serving as a sort of liaison between the clients and case managers.Other tasks included crafting regular reports and case notes.
