Strategic lead for taught programme provision in the Faculty

Leading the provision of online training courses in epidemiology, health systems and clinical trials for hypertension researchers and clinicians, as part of the Improving Hypertension Control in Rural (IHCoR) sub-Saharan Africa

With responsibility for the 14 Masters programmes taught within the Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health - two of which are distance learning programmes, the others intensive online or in person programmes.

These two core first-term modules are run in the face-to-face MSc Epidemiology and MSc Public Health at LSHTM: Epidemiology in Practice (~70 students a year; until 2018) and Issues in Public Health (~170 students a year; since 2018). These roles involve preparing content, arranging for lecturers and tutors, and organising the logistics of the sessions.

I am working with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers across LSHTM, UCL and Cancer Research UK, as well as with clinical and policy collaborators across 21 jurisdictions in 7 countries, on an international comparison of cancer survival. In this role I oversee development of the academic content and delivery of the teaching materials of the MSc Epidemiology distance learning programme, to ensure the currency and scope of the material, delivered effectively and harmonised with the London-based delivery.

Epidemiology Lead on the National Prostate Cancer Audit in the Clinical Effectiveness Unit, based at LSHTM and the Royal College of Surgeons, collating, analysing and reporting on data from hospitals on treatment outcomes for men with prostate cancer. Aiming to provide a review of current practice in order to improve rates of treatment and minimise side effects.

I am deputy director of this newly formed virtual Centre at LSHTM, with responsibility for the theme of Epidemiology. My role is to support and publicise the work of researchers in the School involved in understanding the distribution and causes of chronic conditions, to increase their visibility both within and beyond the School, and to share best practice.

As Deputy Chair of the exam board, my responsibilities included organising the setting, development and testing of the main Paper 2 summer exam, sat by all MSc Epidemiology students, both in-house and distance learning. I still attend all exam board meetings and am involved in the ratification of all MSc Epidemiology degrees awarded.

Leading a programme funded by Cancer Research UK to investigate policy-related variations in outcomes for cancer across the UK and internationally.

Working on NAEDI-funded grant raising awareness of gynaecological cancer symptoms in women through the development of an information leaflet to be used in primary care; running the project: population-based survey, implicit association test study, GP online survey and qualitative interviews, feasibility study in one GP practice, pilot study in 9 practices.
