Learn the foundations of community-based therapeutic recreation program; meet internal and external Park and Recreation staff and discuss their duties. Learn budgeting, planning and implementation of program processes; worked with a variety of ages and disabilities. Ages ranged 2 to 55 and included individuals with Autism, Developmental Delays, Intellectual Disorders, Vision Impairment, Traumatic Brain Injury, Epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, and many others. Assisted in several activities including Paralympic Archery, Zumba, Beep Ball, Karate, and Young Athletes. Young Athletes is a program for pre-K inclusion classes at local elementary schools and teaches the children the foundations of sports, to prepare them for competing in the Special Olympics. A long term project of an adapted kayaking program was researched, planned and implemented. A short term project of a case study was done on two of the participants and included assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation with that one participant. Presenting said projects to the TR staff. Working with Summer Day Camp, specifically 17-21 year olds with varying disabilities. Spending one day with each of the other 6 camps, with ages 2 to 16 with children with varying disabilities.

Plan and implement recreation activities for adolescents ages 13 to 18 in an intensive residential setting; focusing on noncompetitive activities. Plan and implement recreation activities for male and female adults, 18 and over in an intensive residential setting. Created fitness program for adolescent clients focusing on the importance of health and wellbeing. Teach sober fun activities to all clients. Supervise clients in a recreational setting as well as in the residential facility. Assist staff as needed.

Responsible for drawing up drug doses for each animal; inducing and intubating animals before surgery; closely monitoring anesthesia levels for each animal. Opened, ran, and closed Outdoor Adventure Center Rental shop. Created new inventory system for all of the new outdoor gear. Redesigned store front area to fit the new gear and to better reach the needs of the customer. Helped finish construction of indoor climbing wall and belayed people on the wall when it was open. Planned outdoor adventure trips for the months of July through December and lead the trips during May through August. Prepared the rental store for the grand opening ceremony by updating all of the paperwork as well as coming up with ideas for events to hold. Assisted in the planning and helped run the Outdoor Adventure Expo. Assisted with all special events on the Navy base. Created and implemented a challenge activity for the 4th of July competition. Trained new staff members on all outdoor equipment rental procedures and product knowledge.

Guided customers down the river while presenting history and information about the Watauga river on half day trips. Set up rafting gear prior to the river trip and after. Served as the trip leader and was in charge of an entire trip with 45 guests. Interacted with guests before, during, and after the trip and made sure that everyone was enjoying themselves.
