As the Built Environment Coordinator for the NC Division of Public Health, I led the state's built environment strategies to support physical activity and improve health outcomes across North Carolina. My work focused on driving environmental and policy changes to promote active and safe transportation and connecting transportation systems with community destinations. I worked to address both state and local policy changes, fostering safe and healthy environmental conditions that support healthy community design.In this role, I provided technical support as the Built Environment and Community Design Health expert for Division of Public Health partners and local sub-awardees. This was in conjunction with the State Physical Activity and Nutrition Program, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which was awarded to the Community and Clinical Connections for Prevention and Health (CCCPH) branch.I engaged in project development to educate and train multi-sectoral stakeholders and community members on implementing built environment improvements, focusing on active transportation systems that connect destinations through effective community design and land use planning, from both a public health and urban planning perspective.Additionally, I coordinated communication projects related to physical activity and nutrition for the CCCPH branch, managing statewide communications efforts, including the development of monthly newsletters, media campaigns, and video production.
